Hepatitis affects millions of people worldwide and is associated with many adverse outcomes including liver transplantation and hepatic cancer. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C in particular are significant causes of liver cancer, although the misuse of alcohol has been related to conditions such as cirrhosis and other severe complications. The disorders most commonly treated by the hepatologists are viral hepatitis and liver disease linked to alcohol.
